During my first year of art studies in the Netherlands, I lived in the picturesque community of Breda. The town had canals, a beautiful white church, lovely cafes and a forest. Looking out my window on this picture-book environment provided me with daily inspiration. This was where I discovered “HIKARIE”, a technique that allows images to become completely visible only when they are back lit. This art form was revealed to me when I was completing an assignment in the dark room one evening. I noticed that layers of paper created shapes when they were placed in front of a desk lamp light.
